Limiter №6 v1.0.2 Windows/Mac (VST/AU) latest preview

So finally, what’s new in version 1.0.2?

  • New stereo-linking in peak limiter significantly reduced distortions;
  • Numeric parameter values now editable;
  • Less intensive animations to reduce CPU usage;
  • Subtle changes in peak limiter Type I-III modes.

Windows version (32/64-bit, both GUI included):

Mac versions (32/64-bit, VST/AU):

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18475891/Limiter6-v102-gui2.dmg

AU version release notes:

  • in “Min. latency” mode to refresh host latency compensation you must stop then start playback;
  • if you manually enter numeric parameter value, you should click somewhere on plugin background instead of pressing “enter” key.

PS. I want to give more tests for this version, then release it!

Early development version of clipper plugin output stage

Hello!

When working on new clipper plugin I suddenly found that oversampling can’t avoid intersample clips in all cases. Oversampling can reduce possibility of them but not completely avoid. See cooly picture (top samples are exactly 0 dB but the real signal is far above):

The idea is first to calculate real peak value using oversampled peak meter and next apply gain reduction not for single sample but for some window around it.

I’ve implemented both oversampled peak meter and window function-based gain reduction stage in this softclipper test plugin:

Molot GUI has become open-source!

I loose trying to make VSTGUI work with this damn written by left leg(*) wrapper. I decided to rewrite Molot GUI without using VSTGUI library.

I don’t want for another developers to step on the same pitchfork(**) I did. But I soon I don’t need old Molot GUI more I decided to make it open for developers as example of real GUI for VST plugin. I think it can be helpful and educational.

[Molot VST compressor GUI source code]

(*) “written by left leg” – I suppose in english it’s something like “did it sitting on the pants”

(**) “step on the same pitchfork” – Step on it and it hits your face. Do it twice actually. I think in english it’s something like “step into can of worms”

New very early development version of clipper plugin

I’m glad to introduce early development version of new clipper plugin!

The main question: is it good enough to make GUI and release it or it’s too raw? In latter case I’ll continue development.

Molot compressor VST for Mac OS X updated to 0.2.155

Check it in [downloads] section.

Tested on Mac Os X 10.5 and 10.6 for Intel and PowerPC on Reaper and Peak Bias as VST hosts.

Molot compressor updated to 0.2.155

First, we have new skin (see here):

Next, I added some new parameters.  Molot was initially designed for input levels of -12 dbFS so you have 12 dB of headroom. If you have your levels for 0 dbFS or even more than that Molot can distort your sound. It is sometimes pleasant sometimes not. Now we have input gain control and built-in saturation can be turned off. By the way the saturation was always the part of Molot sound and saturation control was linked with “Ratio” knob. So the more ratio you set the more your sound was saturated. Now the saturation can be independent from ratio value. And finally you can place limiter at the end of signal chain or turn it off if you dislike it.

[Check it here]

NOTE #1. Only Windows version was updated. Mac version will be updated soon.

NOTE #2. As the number of VST parameters was changed some DAWs I beleive don’t handle right the plugin upgrade in existing projects. So be careful! (I checked plugin upgrade in Cubase only and it works fine!)

Do you think Molot GUI is very dark?

If you think Molot GUI is very dark you can try this version with GUI modded by Mirolav Pajic.

Download Windows VST x86 & x64 0.2.145

Download Mac OSX VST 0.2.145

The question is: “Do you like it and should I replace GUI to this one in next release?”

“Official” version of Molot with old GUI is still on downloads page.

Presonus Studio One Artist and 4 favorite VST plugins

The main difference between Presonus Studio One Artist and Studio One Pro DAWs the first one allows to use only built-in effects and just EZDrummer, Guitar Rig 3 and Kore Player as external VSTs.

Last holidays I tried to install Studio One Artist (bought for $20 on NAMM special) and I had problems with recognition of EZDrummer Lite and Guitar Rig LE plugins shipped with it. After some investigation with Microsoft Process Monitor I found that Studio One Artist does search of plugins only in default VST directory but I installed them in another place. I changed default VST directory in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VST and the problem was solved. Read more of this post

Molot Compressor VST Mac OS X version (TEST ONLY)

Hi there!

I spent a couple of evenings to try to compile Molot VST on Mac.

The result is the OS X version of VST plugin that you can try to use but I don’t promise you this version 100% working.

Current issues:

  1. There’s 32-bit version only (x86 and PowerPC platforms). I had problems to compile VSTGUI for 64-bit version.
  2. Checked only for Reaper as VST host both x86 and PowerPC versions.
  3. There’s no my favorite EN/RU switch. I had problems with VSTGUI for dynamic changes of transparent layer with english “paper sticks”.

Feel free to write what do you think about this version in comments. Any help is appreciated.
